Purpose of the Position
The holder of this position will be responsible for the identification and development of new business opportunities for the Agency, developing strategies with detailed execution plans to achieve its greater financial sustainability and managing bidding processes for work in consultancies, training and research.

Duties & Responsibilities
i. Identifying business opportunities, negotiating and closing in business deals.
ii. Developing and writing high quality concept notes and proposals and support bidding processes.
iii. Developing positive relationships with the government, donors, academia, commercial businesses and other stakeholders to help achieve the Agency’s overall strategic objectives.
iv. Participating in industry forums, client discussions, and conferences as a representative of the Agency.
v. Providing Business Development Services to target beneficiaries of the Agency’s programmes.
vi. Developing in-depth knowledge about business development practices, marketing activities, prospective clients and industry trends.
vii. Maintaining a knowledge repository of bids, clients, referrals, RFPs, prospects and presentations.

Academic / Professional Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business Management, Marketing or Sales is required.

Skills
i. Must be results-oriented and an excellent communicator both orally and in writing.
ii. Good Computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, Outlook).
iii. Strong planning and organizational skills.
iv. Good understanding of the operations of NGOs will be an advantage.
v. Good interpersonal skills.

Agribusiness Specialist – DPP/002/AS/2014

Job title: Agribusiness Specialist

Reporting to: Programme Manager, Agriculture
Location: Nairobi

Purpose of the Position
The holder of this position will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative agribusiness enterprises / solutions for the Agency as well as spearheading promotion of agriculture as a business among the youth.

Duties & Responsibilities
i. Preparing and developing agribusiness training modules and manuals.
ii. Organizing agribusiness fairs, workshops and field visits for knowledge and technology sharing and transfer among the youth.
iii. Offering training to youth on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in partnership with identified stakeholders.
iv. Developing quality concept notes and proposals for mobilizing resources to undertake agribusiness activities.
v. Working with other professionals, primarily from KARI in implementing professional mentorship of youth in Agriculture.
vi. Developing project papers and publications for disseminating relevant knowledge and technologies on agribusiness to diverse audiences.
vii. Working with scientists from KARI and other collaborating institutions in providing technical backstopping to farmers on specific aspects of agribusiness.
viii. Preparing and maintaining a database of relevant actors and service providers in the different agricultural product value chains.
ix. Analyzing and figuring out marketing strategies for the Agency’s agricultural produce.
x. Training and mentoring casual workers on the farm.

Academic / Professional Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management, Food Security or any agriculture-related field.
Diploma and Higher National Diploma holders in the same fields may take advantage of this

Purpose of the Position
The holder of this position will be required to assist in conceptualization, development and implementation of all communications and take an active role in advocacy programs and strategies.

He / she will be instrumental in ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders and the public regarding the work, achievements and image of YADSTI.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Defining the overall operational plan for the management of the day-to-day communication related issues.
  • Assisting in developing, implementing and monitoring YADSTI’s communication policies, strategies and plans that will project the Agency’s good image.
  • Conceptualizing and assisting in production of professional Information, Education & Communication (IEC) materials, including press releases, information kits, workshop materials, talking points, speeches, brochures, scripts, and other related materials.
  • Managing the production of the Agency’s Quarterly Newsletters, Press Statements, Annual Reports, and other media items.
  • Coordinating various media and advocacy initiatives to assure understanding and visibility of the Agency.
  • Preparing detailed reports on events including workshops, seminars, conferences, study tours etc.
  • Monitoring local and international media and preparing clippings/records of project-related news making full use of electronic news/discussion networks.
  • Responding to requests for information from donor, media, government and general public regarding the Agency’s activities.
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating the Agency’s website.
  • Developing Concept Notes, TORs, budgets and plans for organizing dialogues, workshops, seminars, conferences, study tours and other policy advocacy related events.
  • Plan procurements for the events such as event contractors, resource persons, moderators, rapporteurs, other supporting staff and materials.
  • Identify and maintain lists of relevant media contacts, editors, community leaders, other opinion leaders, industries contacts, and government contacts to ensure wide and targeted distribution of information.
  • Performing any other duties and responsibilities, especially tasks related to communications and advocacy as assigned by the Technical Lead or Senior Management Team.

Academic / Professional Qualifications

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or any other related area, with demonstrated ability to manage external and internal multimedia communications projects.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills to work well with wide range of stakeholders to elicit accurate information and expression of views on relevant issues.
  • Strong coordination, facilitation, negotiation, networking, lobbying and advocacy skills.

Accounts Assistant – DOR/001/AA/2014

Purpose of the Position
The holder of this position will be required to assist in the day to day accounting and financial activities of the Agency and offer support on implementation of its accounting policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and controlling petty cash.
  • Running day to day bank errands.
  • Ensuring proper filing of all financial reports and support documentation for all cash and disbursements is well done.
  • Receiving and verifying payment claims and supporting documents, code all expenses, prepare payments for suppliers and process any tax due to the Government.
  • Processing payroll and promptly submitting all payroll statutory deductions and other tax returns due to the relevant authorities.
  • Assisting in posting of data into the accounting software.
  • Generating accurate, useful and timely financial reports and statements for information and decision making.
  • Facilitating audits.
  • Maintaining the asset / inventory register and ensure that the Agency’s assets and resources are in good condition.
  • Tracking and recording supply of materials procured.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the project budgets.
  • Reconciling bank statements by comparing statements with general ledger.
  • Investigating prices and collecting bids for purchase of office equipment and supplies.
  • Disbursing funds by preparing and issuing cheques for authorized signatures.
  • Assisting with the formulation of budgetary and accounting policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures on all financial and accounting transactions.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director and/or the Finance Manager.

Academic / Professional Qualifications

  • Minimum CPA (K).
  • Graduates in Accounting, Business Administration and / or Commerce will have an added advantage but this is not a strict requirement.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting software.
  • Good Computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, Outlook).
